Carros, the hilltop village above the Var
Going up the Var from the airport, Carros appears on its rock, 300 metres above the plain: an intact medieval village, with its castle turned contemporary art centre, its vaulted lanes and its view of the Mercantour. Below, the largest industrial estate in the department, where thousands of people work; on the plateau, the new town. A quarter of an hour from the airport, it is the closest hilltop village to Nice, and one of the least known.
