Fréjus, the Roman town and its beaches
West of the Esterel, where the coast becomes flat and sandy again, Fréjus is the oldest town in the region: Forum Julii, the port of Caesar and Augustus, of which an amphitheatre, a theatre, an aqueduct and an ancient harbour remain; then a bishop's town, with its cathedral, its 5th-century baptistery and its cloister with a painted ceiling. Around it, two kilometres of sandy beaches, Port-Fréjus and its terraces, and the Esterel just behind. An hour from Nice, it is another Var.
