Le Cannet: the old village on its hill, pastel façades and bell tower, the bay of Cannes in the distance

Le Cannet, Bonnard's village above Cannes

On the hills overlooking Cannes, Le Cannet is a town apart: an old Provençal village with ochre façades and stairway lanes, Belle Époque villas in gardens, and the memory of Pierre Bonnard, who painted here for twenty years and to whom the town has devoted its museum. Ten minutes from the Croisette, it is the address for sleeping in peace near Cannes, with the bay below the windows.

Things to do

  • Cannes, below. The Croisette, the Palais des Festivals, the Suquet and the Lérins islands ten minutes away. Cannes has its own fare from Nice, or I drop you there from Le Cannet on request.
  • Mougins, ten minutes away. The snail-shaped village of gourmets and painters, its museum of classical art, its galleries and its starred restaurants. On request from Le Cannet.
  • Food. The Villa Archange, Le Cannet's starred table; the restaurants of place Bellevue and rue Saint-Sauveur; and, in Cannes, all the tables of the Croisette.
  • Golf and tennis. The Cannes-Mougins golf course and the Cannes-Mandelieu course, the oldest on the coast, less than a quarter of an hour away; the tennis clubs of the hills.
  • The Cannes events. The Festival in May, Cannes Lions, the Yachting Festival, MIPCOM: Le Cannet is the answer for sleeping in peace ten minutes from the Palais when Cannes is full. Book early on those weeks.
  • The hill and the gardens. The Notre-Dame-des-Anges park and the jardin des Oliviers, on the heights, for a walk with a view; and, further on, the Siagne valley and the villages behind Cannes.

When to come

Winter

Le Cannet's historic season: mild weather on the hills, the museum without a queue, Cannes quiet below. Hotels are at their lowest.

Spring

The gardens in bloom, Bonnard's light on the village, the Cannes Festival in May filling the hills. Book early that week.

Summer

Evenings on place Bellevue, the relative coolness of the hill, Cannes ten minutes away for the beaches. Plan the pick-up early in the morning, when the motorway is clear.

Autumn

Golden light on the bay, museum exhibitions, the village handed back to its residents. Le Cannet returns to its rhythm in September.

Questions about this ride

Does the ride use the motorway?

Yes: the A8 motorway to the Cannes-centre / Le Cannet exit, then down to the village or the hills. It is the fastest and most reliable route. Tolls are included in the fare.

Why does Le Cannet cost more than Cannes?

Le Cannet is on the hills north of Cannes, further from the motorway than the Croisette, with sloping, winding roads: the ride is longer, and the fare reflects it. For an address on the Croisette, use the Nice → Cannes page.

Can you drop me in the old village?

The old village is partly pedestrian and on a slope. I drop you on place Bellevue or boulevard Sadi-Carnot, two minutes' walk from the museum and rue Saint-Sauveur. The fare does not change.

What about Mougins?

Mougins, the neighbouring village, is not in the list of fixed-fare routes. Enter the address in the message of the form: I offer you a fare by email, close to that of Le Cannet.

Do you also do Le Cannet → Nice?

Yes, at the same fare of €75 incl. VAT, to Nice centre or to the airport, with no airport surcharge. Use the page Your town → Nice and choose Le Cannet.

How long does it take?

The duration depends on the departure time and the traffic around Cannes, busy on congress days. I give you a precise estimate in the confirmation email, based on your schedule.
