Menton, the town of lemons and gardens
Menton is the mildest resort on the French Riviera: a microclimate that grows lemon and citrus trees all year round, an old town stacked in ochre and pink tiers above the harbour, and gardens created in the 19th century by the English and Russian winter visitors who came for the sun. Squeezed between the mountains and the sea, ten minutes from the Italian border, it has kept the scale of a small town: everything is on foot from the centre.
