Saint-Paul-de-Vence, the painters' village
Saint-Paul is an intact medieval village, within its 16th-century ramparts, on a hill between the Alps and the sea, and it is also the capital of modern art on the French Riviera: Chagall lived here, Matisse, Picasso, Léger and Miró had their table at the Colombe d'Or, and the Maeght foundation, just opposite, remains one of the great museums of 20th-century art in Europe. Twenty minutes from Nice, it is the excursion my clients ask for most.
